CHTHONIC is a multimodal platform that explores the grounds of counter hegemonic production of space by artist and alter-urbanist, Namik Mačkić.
Our first collaboration was the website and identity for an editorial project on re-materializations of the worlds we inhabit. Designing within Mačkić’s vision, the project summons perceptions and records from multiple locations within post-colonial, post-socialist, and post-conflict terrains, searching for countercultural practices and positions of post-digital and post-capitalist futures.
To enter CHTHONIC’s site, visitors engage in a form of digital archaeology — excavating and etching through pixel layers. The logo becomes a geoglyphic anchor as visitors dig deeper into the stratigraphy.
